Seoul Metropolitan Government defeats Gwangju City Corporation with 7 goals from injury-returned Jo Sooyeon
Seven goals from Cho Soo-yeon in her return from injury helped Seoul defeat Gwangju City Corporation.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government defeated Gwangju City Corporation 30-27 on Wednesday at SK Hawks Arena in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Chungcheongbuk-do, in the third round of the Shinhan SOL Pay 23-24 Handball H League Women’s Division.
With the win, the Seoul Metropolitan Government remained in third place with 11 wins, one draw and five losses and 23 points, four points behind fourth-place Samcheok City Hall. On the other hand, Gwangju City Corporation, which lost its third straight game, remained in sixth place with five wins, one draw, and 11 points.
Seoul City Hall got off to a bad start. A series of mistakes led to three goals in a row for Gwangju. After five minutes, Yoon Ye-jin scored the first goal to cut the deficit to 4-5.
A wing shot from Gwangju City Corporation’s Seo A-roo caught fire and the gap widened again to 5-8, but back-to-back goals from Seoul Metropolitan Government’s Woo Beet-na brought them back to within one point and they won three consecutive points to take a 10-9 lead.
Cho’s shots, which had been quiet until this point, started to come out in the second half. Cho scored three goals over the next 20 minutes to give Seoul City Hall a 13-11 lead and end the half with a 15-14 lead.
It was Cho Su-yeon who scored the first goal of the second half. Gwangju City Corporation’s Kim Geum-jung scored back-to-back goals to tie the score at 16-16, but Seoul Metropolitan Government quickly took a 20-16 lead with quick attacks from Song Ji-young and Yoon Ye-jin.
The flow of the second half was largely in Seoul’s favor. Gwangju City Corporation was not able to catch up easily due to errors in the second half. Seoul increased the 토토 gap to seven points, 27-20. Gwangju got within two points in the closing minutes, but Seoul held on for the 30-26 victory.
Gwangju City Corporation’s Seo Ah-roo scored nine goals, the most for either team, and reached the 500-goal mark for her career with 29, but it was not enough as her team lost.
Seoul City Hall’s Cho Soo-yeon made up for her injury absence with seven goals and five assists to lead her team to victory with 12 offensive points.
“We lost the last game, so we practiced to raise our spirits and cheered each other up, and I think that’s why we won today,” said Cho, who was named MVP of the game. “Now that I’m back from injury, I’ll show you a good performance in the remaining games, so please support me until the end.”
