Bae Ji-hwan, has accelerated his return to the big leagues
Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Bae Ji-hwan, 24, has accelerated his return to the big leagues after shaking off an injury.
The Pittsburgh organization announced on Tuesday that Bae has been assigned to the Triple-A Indianapolis Indians to train with the organization.
Bae, who signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2018 after graduating from Kyungbuk High School, made his way through the minor leagues before earning his first call-up to the big leagues in late 2022.
After batting .333 (11-for-33) with three doubles in 10 games in his first year, he made a smooth transition to the big leagues, batting .607 with two home runs, 24 doubles, and an OPS of .607 in 111 games in 2022.

An unexpected injury set him back. Bae was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left hip injury before the start of the season. He didn’t even make the opening day roster.

After going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI in a rehab game for Pittsburgh’s Single-A Bradenton Marauders on Aug. 8, he was promoted to Triple-A the next day.
He showed good instincts at Triple-A, immediately stepping in as the No. 2 hitter and second baseman and going 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored.
He struck out in his first at-bat in the first inning, but followed it up with a single in his second at-bat. After drawing a walk in the third inning, Bae struck out again in the sixth.
