Baseball’s Doosan Bears won the 13th game
Doosan rallied behind resurgent ace Kwak Bin to snap Pajuk’s three-game winning streak.
Baseball’s Doosan Bears won the 13th game of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League against KT Wiz 3-2 on Sunday at KT Wiz Park in Suwon, South Korea.
Doosan has won three straight games to clinch the three-game weekend series early. 61 wins, 2 draws and 55 losses on the season. They have maintained their dominance over KT this year with a 10-3 record. KT, on the other hand, has lost two straight and four straight in Suwon, dropping its record to 54 wins, two draws and 59 losses.
On the road, Doosan lined up against KT starter Ko Young-pyo with the following starting lineup: Jeong Soo-bin (center field), Jared Young (designated hitter), Yang Ji-yi (catcher), Yang Seok-hwan (first base), Kim Jae-hwan (left field), Kang Seung-ho (second base), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop), Lee Yoo-chan (third base), and Cho Su-hyung (right field).
Against Doosan’s Kwak-Bin Kwak, the home team KT named Mel Rojas Jr. (right fielder), Kim Min-hyuk (left fielder), Kang Baek-ho (designated hitter), Oh Jae-il (first baseman), Hwang Jae-gyun (third baseman), Kim Sang-soo (second baseman), Bae Jeong-dae (center fielder), Cho Dae-hyun (catcher), and Shim Woo-joon (shortstop).

Jung Soo-bin led off with a single to left and failed to steal second base, but Yang Ji-ji followed with a double to left-center and Yang Seok-hwan drove in Ko Young-pyo with a single to left-center, but Kim Jae-hwan struck out swinging to end the inning.
The Doosan bats came alive again in the top of the second inning. After Kim Jae-ho singled to center and Lee Yoo-chan singled to right to put runners on first and second, Cho Sung-hyun hit an RBI single to center to break the 0-0 tie. KT countered in the bottom of the fourth inning. Leadoff hitter Kim Min-hyuk drew a straight bunt and Kang Baek-ho singled to right, putting runners on first and third with no outs. Oh Jae-il followed with a single, but Kim Min-hyuk scored from third base to tie the game.
Doosan was unable to capitalize on the runners on second and third in the top of the third and first in the top of the fourth.
The top of the fifth inning was different. Leadoff hitter Jung Soo-bin led off with a double to deep left field. Jared Jared flied out to left field to start the inning, but Yang Ji-hyun followed with a single to left to tie the game at 1-1. However, Yang’s single up the middle put runners on first and second, but Kim Jae-hwan grounded out to the first baseman and Kang Seung-ho struck out swinging on the ninth pitch. Yang complained of discomfort in his left groin and was replaced.
Doosan threatened again in the top of the sixth inning when Lee Yoo-chan doubled and Cho Su-sung walked to put runners on first and second with one out, but Jung Soo-bin fouled out to left field and Jared grounded out to shortstop.
Doosan added another run in the top of the eighth. Leadoff hitter Kang Seung-ho singled up the middle and Lee Yoo-chan followed with a wild pitch to put runners on first and second. After a wild pitch put runners on second and third, Cho Sung-hyun laid down a bunt to bring home Kang Seung-ho from third.

Kang was ruled safe due to a violation of the home plate collision prevention rule. “It was declared safe because Cho Dae-hyun’s left foot blocked home plate before he caught the ball,” said SPOTV commentator Lee Sung-woo.
KT cut the deficit to 2-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning when Moon Sang-chul walked and Kim Min-hyuk hit a lucky RBI single to center field after being hit by a pitch, but it wasn’t enough to tie the game.
KT loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth after back-to-back singles by Hwang Jae-gyun and Kim Sang-soo and a walk by Choi Jae-dae, but pinch-hitters Shin Bong-ki and Park Min-seok struck out in succession to end the inning.
Doosan starter Kwak Bin earned his 11th win of the season (8-1) after throwing 7⅔ innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts and 110 pitches. It was his first Quality Start since July 18 against the Ulsan Lotte Giants and his first in 30 days. Lee Byung-heon (⅓ scoreless inning) and Kim Taek-yeon (1 scoreless inning) followed, with Kim earning his 15th save of the season.
At the plate, Lee Yoo-chan had three hits, Jung Soo-bin and Yang Yang-ji had two hits, and Cho Su-hyung had two RBIs.
Meanwhile, KT starter Ko Young-pyo suffered his sixth loss of the season (3-3) after allowing two runs on nine hits, two walks, six strikeouts and 83 pitches in five innings.
