EPL’s best striker of the moment wins PL Playmaker award
Ollie Watkins wins the PL Playmaker of the Season award.
“Ollie Watkins has won the Premier League Players’ Player of the Season award after leading Aston Villa to the Champions League, beating Kevin De Bruyne,” reported Goal.com on Tuesday.
Watkins is an all-around attacker who plays as a center forward but can also play on the wing. He’s a poacher-style attacker who uses his explosiveness and pace to find space behind the defense, and because he has a fairly good shot, he can score goals from a variety of angles. He can also play as a winger, which gives him a lot of range.
He joined Brentford from the second tier in 2017 and scored 25 goals in the second division as part of a lethal attacking line with Saido Benramah and Brian Mbomo. This performance earned him a move to Aston Villa ahead of the 2020/21 season.
He has done well in the Premier League for the first time in his career and has scored some goals. In the 2021/22 season, he became the club’s top scorer with 11 league goals. He has been a completely different player since Emery arrived.

He’s been flying this season, too. Watkins was named the best attacking player of the 2023/24 season with 32 attacking points for Villa, who finished 먹튀검증 fourth in the Premier League and secured a historic Champions League berth despite a 0-5 loss to Crystal Palace in their final game of the season.
Watkins scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in the league alone to win the Playmaker of the Season award for most assists, beating Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne. The award began in the 2017/18 season, and Manchester City’s De Bruyne is a three-time winner. Other winners include Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane, and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah.
Palmer, who was a key figure in Chelsea’s second-half comeback, totaled 11 assists, while De Bruyne, Mohamed Salah, Son Heung-min, Anthony Gordon and Martin Ødegaard added 10. De Bruyne missed out on the award for the second consecutive season but showed why he is considered the best midfielder in PL history with 10 assists in 18 games after missing the first half of the season with injury.
