Eric Lauer earned a win in his second start.
Eric Lauer, the new foreign pitcher for the Kia Tigers of the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO), earned a win in his second start.
Lauer took the mound against LG on Sunday at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul. He threw 108 pitches over five innings, allowing one run on four hits with four walks and seven strikeouts. He was pulled in the sixth inning with an 11-1 lead.
Lauer made his KBO debut for Samsung Electronics on April 11, allowing four runs on seven hits (two home runs) and two walks with three strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings (75 pitches).
Manager Lee Bum-ho said of Lauer before the game, “I told him not to worry about his first start and to prepare for the next game. He needs to get experience. You have to face hitters and run your game based on that experience. Maybe he pitches well today, maybe he doesn’t, but the rest of the season is important. You need to know your strengths and weaknesses,” he said.
“There is a style of pitching in the U.S., and I think Korean baseball is different from American baseball. It might be better to throw what the catcher asks you to throw rather than what you choose. Last time, he had a battery with Soo-Joo, so this time he’s going with Tae-gun, who has a lot of experience.”
Lauer got Hong Chang-ki to fly out to left field in the first inning and walked Shin Min-jae.
He struck Austin out swinging on a 123-kilometer curveball, and Moon struck out Bok-kyung Moon on a 148-kilometer fastball to end the inning.
In the second, Park walked Dong-won and Oh Hwan grounded out to the first baseman for the second out. Kim Hyun-soo singled to left, but Park Hae-min grounded out to second base to end the inning.
In the top of the third, Song gave up a single to left to lead off the inning. Manager Yoon Kyung-yeop started the right-hander against the left-hander Lauer, 바카라사이트 추천 and it worked out well. Hong Chang-ki walked to put runners on first and second with no outs.
Shin Min-jae set up to bunt and then pulled his bat, allowing the runners to double steal in the first inning. Third baseman Kim Do-young stepped forward and was late getting back to the base, so the catcher couldn’t make the throw to third. Shortstop Park Chan-ho was also late covering the base.
With runners on second and third, Shin Min-jae grounded out to shortstop to score the go-ahead run. With runners on first and second, Austin struck out swinging on a 146-kilometer fastball. Moon then got a fly ball to center field to end the inning.
In the fourth inning,
Park struck out the leadoff batter, Dong-won Park. He gave up a single to Oh Ji-hwan and walked Kim Hyun-soo on a full count. He struck out Park Hae-min on a wild pitch with runners on first and second, but walked Song Chan-ui straight up the middle to load the bases. His pitch count reached 91. Hong struck out Chang-ki Hong on a slider to the outside corner on a 2-2 pitch to end the threat.
Kia scored two runs in the top of the fifth to take a 2-1 lead. Lauer, who threw 97 pitches in the fourth inning, came back out for the fifth. He gave up a single to Austin, but Moon’s homerun attempt was well tracked by center fielder Socrates and caught just in front of the right-center field fence. He struck out Park Dong-won on a wild pitch to end the inning.
