Grab Your PO Tickets…The PGA Tour’s Regular Season Finale Begins in 8 Days
The Wyndham Championship, the final regular-season event to determine the PGA Tour‘s playoff field, begins today (Aug. 8).
The four-day tournament at Sedgefield Country Club (Par 70-7,131 yards) in Greensboro, North Carolina, will feature a fierce battle for the top 70 spots in the FedExCup points standings.
Two South Koreans in urgent need of points are Lee Kyung-hoon and Kim Sung-hyun.
Lee earned his third top-10 of the season at the 3M Open two weeks ago, but remains 99th on the FedExCup standings with 398 points.
After missing the cut at the 3M Open, Kim slipped to 110th on the FedExCup standings with 342 points.
Given that the top 60-70 players have scores in the 600s, Lee and Kim will need to win or finish in the top 10 at the Wyndham Championship, which awards 500 points to the winner, to make the playoffs.
Having already clinched a spot in the playoffs, Lim and Kim have a bit more leeway, but they still need to earn more points to make it to the final event of the playoffs, the Tour Championship.
Lim is in ninth place with 1,883 points, while Kim is in 36th place with 1,168 points.
The tournament will be without some of the top players from the Paris Olympics, including Scottie Shaffler, Zander Schauffele (USA) and Rory McIlroy (NI).
Kim Joo-hyung and Ahn Byung-hoon, who also competed at the Olympics, will also be rested.
Shane Lowry (IRE), who competed at the Olympics, has been named to the roster.
The 10th-ranked player in the FedEx Cup standings, Lowry will be joined by 15th-ranked Akshay Bhatia (USA), who will be in contention for the title.
Meanwhile, the PGA Tour playoffs begin on Friday with the St. Jude Championship, followed by the BMW Championship and Tour Championship.
The first event, the St. Jude Championship, will feature the top 70 players in the FedExCup standings. The BMW Championship will trim the field to the top 50 and the Tour Championship to the top 30 before the final PGA Tour season champion is crowned. 파워볼사이트
