French professional soccer powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has signed 19-year-old defensive midfielder João Nemes.

“We have signed Nemes on a five-year contract,” PSG announced on its website on Friday (local time).

Nemes becomes the second player to join PSG in the summer transfer window after goalkeeper Matvey Saponov.

Neves, who represented Portugal at the European Football Championship (Euro 2024), is reportedly valued at €70 million ($148 million).

Nemes, who came up through the youth ranks of Portuguese giants Benfica in 2012, signed an official contract with the club in December 2022 until 2028, and has played nine A matches for the Portuguese national team.

Néves made 17 appearances in the Portuguese top flight Primeira Liga in the 2022-2023 season, scoring one goal, and last season, he made 33 appearances (three goals) and cemented his place in the first team.

Although he is a defensive midfielder, his ball-keeping, passing, and tackling abilities allow him to play a variety of roles in the midfield.

As a result, Neves has been touted as a potential starter alongside PSG’s Lee Kang-In.
