The San Diego Padres failed to win back-to-back games
The San Diego Padres failed to win back-to-back games. Kim Ha-seong was silent.
San Diego fell 1-5 at home to the Chicago Cubs in the 2024 Major League Baseball World Series on Tuesday (Sept. 10) at Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA.
Starting pitcher Joe Musgrove suffered his second loss of the season (1-1) after allowing four runs on five hits (one homer) with five strikeouts and three walks in four innings.
San Diego’s batting order was Zander Bogaerts (second base), Fernando Tatis Jr. (right field), Jake Cranworth (first base), Manny Machado (designated hitter), Jurickson Profar (left field), Ha Sung Kim (shortstop), Luis Campusano (catcher), Jackson Merrill (center field) and Tyler Wade (third base).
Ha-Sung Kim was silent on the day, going 0-for-3 with a walk. His season batting average dropped to 1-for-9 from 2-for-8. After going 1-for-4 against the San Francisco Giants on Aug. 8 and hitting a triple against the Cubs the previous day (Sept. 9), Kim did not reach base in three consecutive games.
He struck out swinging in his first at-bat.
The teams were tied 0-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Machado led off with a single to left, but Profar hit a grounder in front of the second baseman for a double play.
Two batters later, with the bases loaded, Kim was hit by a 97.5 mph (157 km/h) three-seam fastball from Cubs starter Ben Braun.
San Diego broke Musgrove in the top of the fifth. He gave up a leadoff homer to Gomes, a walk to Happ, a single to Suzuki and a double to Bellinger to load the bases. 안전놀이터 추천
Kolek came on in relief and gave up a two-run homer to Morel to make the score 0-5. Musgrove’s earned run total was now four.
Kim’s second at-bat came in the bottom of the fifth inning. With his team’s lead down, Kim batted leadoff and struck out again. After a seven-pitch battle with Brown, he couldn’t get a touch on a 96.6 mph four-seam fastball.
San Diego scored a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Egui Rosario, pinch-hitting for Wade, hit a solo shot to left. Bogart flied out to center, Tatis Jr. grounded out to the catcher, and Cronenweth struck out swinging to end the inning.
Kim struck out in his third at-bat of the seventh inning. On a two-strike, two-pitch at-bat, he was hit by a five-seam, 94.4-mph sinker from Cubs third reliever Yancy Almonte.
The defense made the play. In the top of the eighth, with runners on first and second and one out, he made a solid grab on a grounder to the shortstop’s side of the infield and threw to second for a double play to nab Cooper, who led off the inning.
However, the San Diego offense, including Kim, failed to attack the Cubs’ mound, and the game was lost. A four-run deficit. In the bottom of the ninth, Tatis Jr. led off with a swinging strikeout and Cronenweth singled to left field. Machado grounded out in front of the third baseman to end the game.
