Korda named women’s golf ‘No. 1 gold medal favorite’ by NBC
NBC, the U.S. broadcaster of the 2024 Paris Olympics, has ranked South Korean athletes as the favorites to win the women’s golf event.
According to the ‘Power Ranking 1-15’ for women’s golf at the Paris Olympics released by NBC on June 6 (Korea time), Kim Hyo-joo was ranked 11th and Ko Jin-young was ranked 12th.
World No. 3 Yang Hee-young, who won the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, was even excluded from the 15-player power ranking.
It’s hard to escape the criticism that South Korean women’s golf has been overly criticized.
NBC noted that Kim is fifth in tee shot accuracy and fourth in short game on the LPGA Tour, so she could be in contention if most players struggle to hit the greens.
While Ko touted the fact that she ranks fourth in iron shot accuracy on the LPGA Tour, she pointed out that she has only played in 10 tournaments this year. However, the fact that she has finished in the top 12 in half of the tournaments she has competed in is a plus.
NBC’s top pick for the title is world No. 1 Nellie Korda (USA).
Korda, who won gold at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago, hasn’t quite lived up to expectations lately, missing three straight cuts and tying for 26th at the Amundi Evian Championship, but she’s still one of the best players on the LPGA Tour off the tee, as evidenced by her second-place ranking in shot accuracy, and most importantly, she’s the most prolific birdie maker on the LPGA Tour, according to NBC.
World No. 2 Lilia Boo (USA) is the No. 2 favorite, while NBC has Patti Thawatanakit (THA) as the No. 3 favorite.
Home course favorite Celine Boutier (FRA) is ranked seventh, behind Rose Chang (USA), Brooke Henderson (CAN) and Lin Shiyu (CHN). 안전놀이터
