Celtic duo Yang Hyun-joon-Oh Hyun-gyu find it hard to laugh
Scottish professional soccer giants Celtic are going for the double by winning the league and Scottish Cup, but Korean leaguers Yang Hyun-joon and Oh Hyun-kyu are having a hard time laughing.
Celtic won 2-1 at home against Rangers in the 36th round of the 2023-2024 Scottish Premiership at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland, on Nov. 11 (KST).
The teams were evenly matched after the Old Firm Derby.
Celtic took the lead through Matt O’Reilly and an own goal, while Rangers fought back through a Sirielle Deschamps strike, only to be outnumbered by a disallowed goal.
The winners, Celtic, remain unbeaten in seven games (6 wins, 1 draw) and move to 87 points (27 wins, 6 draws, 3 losses) at the top of the table.
Rangers failed to catch up to Celtic with 81 points (26 wins, 3 draws, 7 losses).
Celtic will clinch the title with a win or draw at Kilmarnock in Round 37 on May 16, regardless of the final Round 38 result.
They will complete the double if they also beat Rangers in the Scottish Cup final on May 25.
With a 54th league title and 42nd Scottish Cup on the line, the mood is electric. However, the Korean duo are in a precarious position.
In the last Old Firm derby, Yang Hyun-joon and Oh Hyun-gyu didn’t even make the bench.
Since arriving in Scotland last summer, 안전놀이터 the wing has been rotated in and out of the starting lineup under Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
He has been a regular in the league and in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
He seemed to be hitting his stride, but has seen his playing time diminish recently after being sent off against Hearts of Midlothian in the 29th round.
With no clear injury news to speak of, his place in the team remains uncertain.
Striker Oh Hyun-kyu, who won a triple with Celtic last season, has entered the fray in earnest this season but has been unable to get past Japanese gunman Kyogo Furuhashi.
He scored in Round 11 against St. Mirren (1), Round 13 against Aberdeen (2), and Round 16 against Hibernian (2), but nothing more.
Furuhashi has 18 goals and five assists in all competitions, leaving no room for Oh to slip through the cracks.
To make matters worse, Celtic are reportedly keen to buy on-loan Adam Ida outright in the same forward position.
With Yang and Oh in jeopardy, Celtic have two league games and the Scottish Cup final to finish the season.
